In the Spotlight - Gunnies Collectables

Ok, so some of the terms in this introduction may not make sense unless you're a collector. But if you happen to be one, this next stallholder will be sure to interest you!

Robyn has been enjoying making bears for approx 15 years & describes her designs as contemporary, colourful, with each having personality, attitude & individuality. Each bear is larger than life and definitely very cuddly! Not only is Robyn creating the bears herself, she also takes pleasure in teaching the craft at one day workshops to her students.

Not content with just bear-making, Robyn has recently explored PAVERPOL statues and Flower Buddies are other creative ventures. (there's some of those names I was referring too)

So what can you expect at the Gunnies Collectables stall?
1. Handmade one of a kind or Limited Edition Collectable Bears,Cats, Dogs and other animal companions.

2. Handmade PAVERPOL indoor/outdoor, one of a kind garden statues.

3. Flower Buddies (newest products) - Handmade mini statues decorated with flower petals, leaves, berries & twigs.

Vaness Petri, owner of Hourglass Photography, is in the business of magically transporting your little fairies into a stunning miniature landscape. A place she likes to call "Fairyland".

Encounter giant mushrooms, spectacular living moss and sparkling spiderwebs. Fairies will be granted wings, and of course the all important pixiedust.

All elements of the final product are from photographs taken by Vanessa. Each tiny detail is created with painstaking precision, leaving the viewer wondering "where was that taken?"

With the flavours of Christmas treats but a distant memory now I thought it time appropriate to introduce you to Ready-Made Recipes!

Ready-Made Recipes make perfect gifts for the less experienced chef, teens or even for the elderly who have trouble measuring. All of the dry ingredients are in the jar or packet. You just add very simple ingredients you should already have on-hand and cook it.

I LOVE this concept for so many reasons but to name just a few ...

I'm lounging on our sun-scorched deck, watching the kids construct a cubbyhouse under the table, listening to the ocean & taking in the breeze of summer. Not a bad way to bring in 2012 on the Central Coast!

We trust everyone had a fulfilling Christmas surrounded by the ones you love (whether they were in the same room or via Skype or via great memories) & you're now looking forward to achieving great things in 2012.

Our next Handmade Craft Market will be held on February 19 in our new location at the Bridgecoast Stadium. This new location is very exciting for us as it offers so much more space meaning we can accept even more boutique stallholders offering the best of handmade, handcrafted or handgrown creations. Blue Ripple designer describes who designs as being reminiscent of whimsical days at the beach, chasing dandelions with my kids and the beauty I find in my day to day life as a mum. Using my drawing and illustrating talent I transfer my drawings graphically to my range of stationery products. My designs are all about celebrating life, living in the moment and reaching out to the people we love.

In the Spotlight - Frankenstein's Fabrics

Another new store will be debuting at our next market. Frankenstein’s Fabrics is run by Marni Franks who has worked in the textile industry pretty much her entire working life. Upholstery with her dad, a stint at Lincraft, a patchwork shop & even working for Australian Patchwork & Quilting magazine.

About 7 years ago Marni was working in a craft shop and something hit her – all she ever wanted was to run and her own patchwork and quilting shop. That (nearly) decade long dream has recently been achieved, with the aid of her family and friends, with the opening of a store in Birru Road, Gosford.

The shop is improving all the time with more and more stock arriving almost every day. Classes are getting there with mainly basics being taught at the moment – basic quilting techniques such as cutting and calculating (always important!) There is also a service that we provide where you can rent out our classroom for a small hourly fee to baste your quilts, work on a project etc.

In the Spotlight - Divine Signs

Carla Norman is the creator of Divine Signs, is mum to a 22 month old little boy & is a local of Wyoming. She is inspired by all things pretty, vintage, girly and whimsical, which is clearly shown in her wooden, hand-painted signs.

Divine Signs is all about signs that not only look great but that are full of sentimental meaning. A wedding sign can be placed in your home after the big day, and remain there for years to come. Similarly, Carla can make a sign for your home or family which are made with complete love and care.

The signs are painted in a crackled, distressed white, with black font, they are coated with a varnish and are all reasonably priced.

Carla started Divine Signs at the beginning of 2011 & is inspired, supported & encouraged daily by her husband, sone and parents. In her ‘pre-craftiness life’, Carla worked in several offices in Marketing and Sales Manager roles. She adores being creative and sharing her products with others.

Let the excitment begin! Our next market is Nov 20th - perfect for pre-Christmas shopping!

The even more exciting news is that we have so many fantastic stallholders lined up, both returning vendors & new ones!

Being launched at the markets is new brand Rhi Designs by Rhiannon Gray

Rhi Designs - a unique womenswear label offering one of kind luxury apparel including swimwear, resort wear and funky accessories. I love the playful colours and pattern combinations in this range! All pieces are designed and made by Rhiannon with some of the fabric she uses being her own design which is digitally printed in Australia. The fabric she designs is all inspired by various fabric dyeing techniques making them unique and exclusive.

Rhiannon Gray is a local up-and-coming young designer, with a Bachelor of Design in Fashion and Textiles. Her new and exciting eclectic label 'Rhi Designs' is being launched in the local markets this Spring/Summer 2011.

We can't wait to see the one-of-a-kind bikinis, luxury silk and mesh Kaftans, funky accessories and beach bags.

In the Spotlight - variety special!

With only 1 sleep to go things are heating up in the houses of all our stall holders. So much goes into market preparation that it is quiet common for designers to have only a few hours sleep the night/s before. Right now, in houses across the coast (& some beyond), sewing machines are getting a last minute workout, paint is being willed to dry, irons are frantically being used on stock & table cloths, printers are spewing out labels, & cars are groaning under the weight of many a treasure!

So whilst browsing through a snapshot of items that our stallholders have lovingly made for this weekends market, spare a thought for our little stress-bunnies & be sure to appreciate your nights sleep! And then, have some fun in the morning by taking a silent poll of which designer has the sleepiest looking eyes!

There's nothing like a beautiful aroma to jog the memory & take you back to another time or place - or is that just me?!? I have a bit of a travel 'thing' where I buy a new scented body lotion or perfume to be lathered on during the trip. I find that when I smell this scent in the years to come it triggers memories of my trip. Eg Shea butter reminds me of Singapore, Creme Brulee reminds me of NZ, Ylang Ylang reminds me of Ireland. Weird?

Elvine of EVE's Soy Candles shares my love of gorgeous scents & has created a boutique candle making business located on the Central Coast. It grew out of a love for scented soy candles and wanting to share this with others by helping them create a beautiful ambience in their home or office with high quality, handmade scented soy candles, melts, reed diffusers & accessories at a reasonable price.

The list of scents in EVE's Soy Candles is long. 'Little Black Dress' (sexy blood orange & carnation with sandalwood, black rose, smoky wood & patchouli. We've showcased some absolutely talented photographers in the past so here's one with a little twist! PawPrint Images has been the vision of Sharon Stokes for many years now. Sharon has been a passionate photographer for 20+ years and received many awards for her images.

"My two passions in life have always been animals and photography, I have finally combined the two into a business that makes me happy. I worked for 15 years as a veterinary nurse in both small and large animal practices. I have spent time as a puppy preschool facilitator and an Arabian show horse trainer."

As well as having been a devoted pet owner for much of her life, Sharon is now also a mum to two young human kids.

In the Spotlight - Thursday 17th March, 2011

Please welcome local gals Hayley and Jade from The Hare and the Tortoise to the Spotlight.

The Hare and the Tortoise was started by Hayley and Jade in October 2010 over a cup of earl grey and some cadbury chocolate! Hmmm.

They began with cupcake decorating, which they both loved and soon moved on to handmade cards where the business name the hare and the tortoise originated from. Hayley, the hare, would make 10 cards compared to Jade, the tortoise, making just 2! However all were beautifully finished of course.

They soon both discovered a love a fabrics, so now The Hare and the Tortoise design and make handcrafted items for babies and children and even sometimes for the kids at heart too. Their products are all made by hand with a lot of love and laughter and maybe an earl grey or two.

The Hare and the Tortoise will be back at the Handmade Craft Market on Sunday 15th May at Erina High School from 10am - 2pm so make sure you come down and see their gorgeous creations.

Because we are little late for last weeks post I thought I would share with you who I am and what I do. I am the brain child behind the Handmade Craft Market, rachelle rachelle, Hey Tol and Rachelle Stewart Photography. I have worked in advertising and events for over 10 years, hold a business degree majoring in marketing, studied graphic design and photography and I am a 30 something mother of 2. So life gets a little hectic in our household but I love my family and love being creative.

I started sewing again when I was pregnant with my first child who is now 2.5 years old, adjusting clothes to make them more of a maternity style as I didn't like any of the maternity clothes in the shops for my fuller figure. From there grew rachelle rachelle and my many add on projects along the way.

I launched the Handmade Craft Market in August last year after trying to find a suitable market to sell my handmade range at. I was disappointed with the kind of markets we had on the Coast, and there was nothing dedicated to Handmade. As a child I grew up in the country, and I wanted a market that was more like a family fair with lots of handmade goodies, entertainment and treats for the little kids and big kids. A fun day out like the good old country fairs. A market that doesn't sell imported or mass produced products, just strictly handmade, handcrafted and homegrown. And the rest they say is history. So here is a little peek at some of my goodies available at our next market on Sunday 20th February. I hope to see you there.

Candice is the designer and creater of every piece. Having a love for fashion and crafts whilst being a qualified hairdresser, working with brides to create beautiful bridal hair for the past 5 years, it was only a matter of time before she began creating her own stunning pieces and finally launching her dream in September 2010. A range of angelic accessories for everyday, special occassions and bridal.

After having many brides bring beautiful hair pieces that just didn't quite place into detailed bridal hair perfectly, Candice created a unique ribbon back design for bridal hair which can easily be placed in the desired position, without any disruption to the hairstyle or veil.

Tracy is passionate about good design, loves Scandinavian design and Australian made furniture and also offers a range of personal decorating packages and personal shopping to suit all your needs be it residential and commercial.

With only 5 more sleeps until our Christmas Market we thought we would share with you the winner of our best dressed stand award from our launch market. So this week In the Spotlight is Carolyn Kohler Collection.

Carolyn Kohler Collection make stunning wearable art. With a background in fashion and a passion for colour, texture and design it was a natural progression for Carolyn to create wearable art pieces. Mother nature, in particular flowers, provide a never ending source of inspiration for her designs.

Many years in the fashion industry taught Carolyn that women desire natural fibres against their skin. Sadly, recent years have seen a huge increase in the use of synthetic fabrics and she is happy to support the move back to natural fibres.   Carolyn’s designs are all original, handcrafted pieces that combine Australian merino with silk using traditional nuno felting techniques.

All embellishments used are also natural fibres and include mohair, alpaca, hemp and cotton as well as beading in timber, coconut and glass. Carolyn hand dyes all her fleece and silk making each piece completely unique. No two are the same.   The wraps come with brooches that can be worn in various ways to suit the occasion or the individual style of the wearer.

This week in the Spotlight is Subreeze Art & Design. Subreeze Art & Design is home to Susan and Briana, a mother and daughter team who live here on the Central Coast.

Briana is currently studying a Bachelor of Art and Visual Communications majoring in graphic design. She loves colour and unusual mediums and often uses found objects in her work.

Susan is a busy mum who works part-time and has recently dusted off her brushes after hearing about the Handmade Craft Market earlier this year. She has a passion for pastels and loves their brightness and versatility.

They are both inspired by the beauty and colour of our natural world and the gorgeous wildlife within it. We are pleased to announce that Dan Granero will be playing at the launch of the Handmade Craft Market on Sunday 22 August.

Dan is a local musician with international acclaim. He is an energetic and soulful Blues/Rock performer who over the last few years has won the hearts of Blues/Rock fans from Australia, Italy, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

Dan began his 27-year musical journey at age three. His first musical influence was his father, Michael Granero who was lead guitarist in the band ‘Ivory’ in the 1970’s. Dan was born and raised in Australia growing up in a household filled with many styles of music, from the flamenco style of his parents’ Spanish/Gibraltarian heritage, to blues, soul, roots, rock, reggae and gospel.

Before long Dan was hooked on the blues/rock sounds of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and most importantly, the limitless possibilities of the Fender Stratocaster guitar. Dan currently tours as a 3 piece band which always includes various well respected musicians in the line up and they perform original material as well as popular Blues/Rock tunes with his own personal spin.

This week in the spotlight we have 2 amazing stallholders as we weren't able to bring you one last week due to family illness.

First up we have Beautifulfairy.com.au. If you don't know much about this fabulous business it is run by 2 amazing sister in laws who have triumphed through heartache to help you capture your photos and story and turn them in to unique artistic creation.

It bought tears to my eyes as I read Louise's story on how the business came about. After losing not one but two beautiful fairies (Ella and James) during the second and third trimester of her pregnancies she turned to digital scrapbooking to help the grieving process. I was truly inspired by the strength, determination, love and friendship of Louise and Sam. Their journey has given them a unique perspective on the beauty of children and how precious the early years are.

Beautiful Fairy Memory Albums was launched last year, named after Louise's daughter Ella, which means beautiful fairy, and they are launching their new website very soon. This week in the spotlight features Sculpture by Teangi. Teangi has a passion for animals and nature which is reflected in her amazing metal sculptures. Hints of our rugged Australian terrain are captured through various tortured textural effects in each piece she creates.

Residing on the Central Coast, Teangi uses a mixture of metals and various components to create her unique designs. The Handmade Craft Market is proud to present Teangi's sculptures to the public for the first time. Visitors to the market will be able to meet Teangi on the day, talk to her about her sculptures and what inspires her, and most importantly purchase one (or maybe a few) of her gorgeous designs.

This week in the spotlight features Just Like Katie. If it wasn't for my chance meeting with the lovely Shannon Davey a few months back and her giving me that much needed push, you may not have had the launch of the Handmade Craft Market as it was just an idea in my head that I had been tossing around for quite some time.

So with the much needed push and support of local designers I set to it and launched the Handmade Craft Market and we are pleased to be showcasing Just Like Katie's gorgeous children's label at our launch market on Sunday 22 August, 2010.

Just Like Katie creates handmade pieces for the little people in your life. Inspired by colour and fabric, Shannon creates quality pieces with practical applications. Their clothing can be worn for more than one season, and they are adjustable to grow with your little one. I hope you enjoy this little sneak peak at some of the gorgeous pieces by Just Like Katie. The Handmade Craft Market is fast approaching and our list of designers and artists we have in store is amazing. We are predominantly indoors with extra goodies outside, so we will be on rain, hail or shine, but bring on the sunshine.

We continue to bring you talented designers and artists from around the Central Coast and surrounding regions enabling us to offer you something truly unique. We are dedicated to supporting handmade, handcrafted and homegrown talent.

We are going MMAD in May supporting Musicians Making A Difference. 100% of gold coin entry door donations for our May market will go to MMAD in May. Kids up to 16 years are FREE.

MMAD's purpose is to improve the lives of all young people, particularly disadvantaged and marginalized youth, through the power of music, the creative arts, and unconditional positive regard. Over the last 10 years, MMAD has developed programs with the aim to inspire, develop and empower young people. Their programs can break the cycle of negativity and help young people to reach their full potential. So come along and support a great cause and help us get MMAD in May.

More FUN for the kids... We have FREE face painting for the kids, and say hello to the gorgeous fairy from My Fairy Party. Bring your camera along so the kids can have their photo taken with Ollie at our Ollie the Owl Photo Booth.

We kicked off the year with a scorcher!

On an almost 40 degree day we kicked off our first market for the year on Sunday 20th February at Erina High School, and thankfully we all survived the heat, some only just (including me).

Thank you to all our regular visitors and our new ones too, who came out and supported our local designers and artists and most importantly thank you to all our stallholders for persevering in the heat and showcasing your gorgeous handmade originals and delicious treats.

Our next market is on Sunday 15th May at Erina High School from 10am - 2pm, and our line up of designers and artists is amazing. I can't wait to share them all with you.

CONGRATULATIONS to our lucky door prize winners Lisa J - Woy Woy, Kristy T - Davistown, winners of the six month subscriptions to Handmade Magazine and Alisha L - Berkeley Vale winner of our PixiFoto Photographic Package valued at over $1600. A HUGE thank you to Handmade Magazine and PixiFoto Erina for your fabulous prizes and involvement in our market.

A massive thanks also goes to the beautiful vocals of Loren Kate for entertaining our visitors at the market and we can't forget the gorgeous fairies from My Fairy Party and the very talented girls at The Scrapbooking Haven who had some gorgeous projects for the kids.

Our first market kicks off for the year on Sunday 20th February from 10am - 2pm at Erina High School.

We have some amazing designers and artists ready to showcase their gorgeous handmade originals and delicious treats.

Kids will love our fairy face painters and the projects we have in store at the Scrapbooking Haven Kids Craft Corner. Choose from either a fairy wand or hacky sack project for just $2. Its an exciting way to get your kids involved in craft and a fun activity that they will love.

We hope you have a fabulous day Celebrating the Australian spirit. To all those that became Australian citizens today, 'good on ya mate'. Don't forget the sunscreen, thongs and hat today, and where ever you are celebrate what's great.

Our first market will be back on Sunday 20th February from 10am - 2pm so make sure you mark it in the diary and support your local designers and artists.

We are excited to announce that all entry fee donations will be donated to the QLD Flood Appeal so just another great reason to come and indulge in a day of handmade.

We have some amazing lucky door prizes in store. Plus loads of new handmade goodies from new stallholders for 2011 and some of your favourites.
